Simultaneous interpreting

Simultaneous interpreting

The assignment of simultaneous interpreting, also referred to as conference interpreting, takes place inside a soundproof booth. This technique is generally used for international congresses, conferences, seminars before large audiences and with speakers of different nationalities. Two interpreters work together in the booth, ‘translating’ simultaneously and alternating every 20 to 30 minutes in order to keep concentration at the highest level.
Remote simultaneous interpreting can also be provided, using state-of-the-art RSI (Remote Simultaneous Interpreting) platforms.

Consecutive interpreting

Consecutive interpreting

Consecutive interpreting is used during press conferences or small meetings, presentations, conferences, seminars, refresher courses preferably in the presence of a single speaker who speaks in a language different from the one used in the conference. The interpreter is positioned next to the speaker, listens, notes down the content of the speech and then reproduces it consecutively in the target language using the notes taken. This technique is often combined with chuchotage.

Dialogue interpreting

Dialogue interpreting

Dialogue interpreting, also known as liaison interpreting, is used in the presence of small groups at business meetings, working lunches, visits to factories by foreign delegations, trade fairs, business negotiations, but also for meetings in health-social or legal-judicial contexts. The interpreter memorises the content of the message with or without the aid of notes and then translates it, in summary form, into the target language.

Chuchotage

Chuchotage

Chuchotage, or ‘whispered’ interpreting, is a type of interpretation similar to simultaneous interpreting but without the use of microphones or booths. The interpreter stands next to the guests (usually one, in any case no more than two) who need language support in a given situation and simultaneously whispers into their ears the translation into the target language.
